Earlier this year a German judge rejected a Muslim woman’s request for a speedy divorce from her husband who regularly beats her. The judge cited the Koran’s (debated) allowance for husbands to beat disobedient wives. Story here.
Does truth become true as a result of democracy? Do all standards of social behavior rise from the community? If so, than this judge is justified. Or, perhaps, the judge is ahead of her time . . . eventually the entire community will agree and the husband is allowed to beat his wife.
Or, is there truly a standard of truth outside the community?
Is the United States going this direction?
